and we’re off…

Welcome to our newly furbished website! It’s a project that we kept putting on hold to get other important stuff done, but it’s finally ready. We’re excited to post blogs more regularly so that you can keep up with us as we live and work in the Czech Republic.

We’ve been keeping busy the last month (and then some). Jonny has been working extra hard, because two weeks ago the other English teacher at BMA was leading the 4th year students on their class trip, and now he is in America getting four 3rd year students settled in their host homes for their two month study abroad experience. Jonny was also working hard on getting the BMA website updated and the English version posted. Check it out at: http://gymnaziumbma.cz/

I’ve been teaching part time at a private elementary school in a nearby town. That has been quite the experience for me since I have no formal (or informal) teaching education or experience, unless you count playing at school when I was little and being in school for a large chunk of my life. Although it’s challenging, I really enjoy working with kids. In addition to that, I teach two one-hour kids classes at BMA and I am working at a local cafe two days a week. Working at the cafe is a great opportunity to practice my Czech and it’s also another good way to meet people and build relationships.

Besides work, we have been keeping busy with Czech lessons (which is surprisingly fun for me) and hanging out with our friends who live upstairs from us. As you can see below, they were lucky enough to have a snowmonster built in their parking spot by their super cool neighbors (yes, us!) last month.

Snowmonster!

We love to get emails, so if you’re ever bored (or want to procrastinate), feel free to send us one. Have a look at the contact page for our email addresses. Have a great week, friends!
